Strumming Pattern or Patterns

I have been learning the songs on the site and trying to play along with some of them. One song, “Grave on the Green Hillside” that I am learning I can play but I can't get the strumming pattern that they use. How do you know what pattern? I can play and sing but not with the song. What strumming pattern is being used? I am playing a Baritone Ukulele. Thanks for any help.

Also, how do you figure the beats per measure? If it is ¾ or 4/4 or 2/2

It's ¾ or bass strum strum.

Yes - waltz time - when listening to this song clip, 1-2-3-1-2-3-1-2-3 etc. is the pattern

I always listen to the melody of the song to tell if it's in ¾ or 4/4.

Try counting 1 2 1 2 as you sing through it. If you end up off at the end it is not 4/4 and it must be ¾.

Trying it in ¾ time it didn't sound correct I went to 4/4 or Bass strum, bass strum and it works. Just to be sure I spent time looking for the song and finally found it and it is 4/4 time. I know the song pretty good by now. Thanks all.
